Learning Russian Through Russian Film
Learning Russian Through Russian Film
Learning Russian Through Russian Film- Many Russian students choose to study in Russia because they want to immerse themselves in Russian culture. It’s easy to forget that, however.
There’s no denying that Russian is a challenging language to learn. There’s a huge difference in grammar and a mountain of new words to learn. That’s why a lot of first-year Russian students focus on rote memorization of grammar tables and vocabulary lists. But if we just think about memorising, we risk missing the forest for the trees. When I first started studying Russian, I was definitely guilty of doing this.
This Is My Experience With Learnlanguages.store
When I was deciding what major to pursue in college, I knew that Russian would be one of them. As a result, I decided to take some individual Russian classes with Dmitri at Learnlanguages.store Languages.
The lessons I took from Andre were excellent. I was already studying Russian, and he promptly assessed my proficiency and provided feedback on how to best proceed. I didn’t understand the distinction between imperfective and perfective tenses back then. He was giving me clear explanations, but I was mentally drained. Adopting a new grammatical system is a formidable challenge.
I think Andre knew I was becoming fatigued. His inquiry, “So, why do you want to study Russian?” afforded me a little reprieve from my thoughts. In response, I said that I was keen on learning more about Russian culture, particularly the arts.
I’m curious as to which Russian films you’ve seen. Incredulous, I thought. “There aren’t any as of right now.”
Seeing the bewilderment on his face, I. Sadness, maybe even. My recollection of our conversation is vague, but I do remember a major takeaway. Simply put, I learned that even at my elementary Russian level, I could appreciate Russian films.
The Russian Film Industry Is More Available Than Ever
I made an attempt to see Russian films while continuing my Russian studies in college. But now I’ve hit a roadblock. For some years, it has been tough to track down Russian films accompanied by English subtitles. In the same vein, picking amongst films was a challenge due to the lack of clear metrics for evaluation.
Thankfully, that has changed. There are a plethora of excellent Russian films available on YouTube right now. All of these are perfectly legal to see since they were posted by former Soviet film studios. However, they are disorganised and sometimes miss English subtitles on YouTube.
