FUN ZOOM BACKGROUNDS TO INSPIRE YOUR LANGUAGE LEARNING
Travel paused? Zoom Cation While Dreaming about Adventures
Some pandemic restrictions are lifting, but life is still different. Summer holidays (and language practise) are cancelled in most countries due to travel restrictions!
The confinement made us inventive. Internet access helps us virtually visit exotic locations. We have fantastic ideas for virtual get-togethers with friends and coworkers, whether you prefer to bake, organise drink or painting parties, or just hang out in a “new” place.
While we take regular Pimsleur lessons and dream about travelling, we can customise our displays to remind us of future excursions. Let us show you how to use Zoom to inspire your language learning and help you and your friends plan vacations when things open up.
What’s Zoom?
Since the pandemic, Zoom has become a global video teleconferencing platform. People use it to work and virtually “visit” family, friends, and coworkers while being secure at home.
Zoom’s screen background switching feature is fun. Politicians, winemakers, and morris dancers use the “Virtual Background” tool to enhance their meetings.
Pimsleur enjoys virtual travel. If we can’t go right now, we want to bring the world to us and you.
How to Spice up Your Virtual Life with Zoom Backgrounds
Take a Friend on Your Favorite Vacation
Relive your favorite travel memories with your own images. Take your friend to your favorite city or beach? Your virtual background might showcase your Favorite eateries, street cuisine, and adventurous sites.
Travel Book Club
What about a place you’ve always wanted to visit but haven’t yet? Zoom there virtually.
Choose a “visit” spot with friends. Set backgrounds and explore virtually. Use some fresh linguistic terms in your chat.
Bring city facts to each meeting and enjoy the scenery. During the COVID-19 pandemic, many museums, zoos, and tourist destinations are offering free virtual tours, so you may “see” the sights.
Wear sunglasses, a sunhat, and a cocktail before exploring!
Sports Event
Large-scale sporting events are cancelled across most of the world, making it difficult to fill the hole. Sports dominated many pre-Covid social calendars, whether as spectators or players.
Why not stage a sports match at home? Have a highlights party with pals using your local stadium’s virtual background. If you’ve ever wanted to be a comentarista, now’s your opportunity.
Natural Wonders
Patagonia may be your dream destination. Machu Picchu, Mount Fuji, or the Icelandic Northern Lights.
Virtually visit your favourite natural wonder. Many national parks and notable landscapes are offering virtual tours due to COVID-19. Take a tour of Mother Earth!
“Guess Where I Am?”
Travel bucket lists aren’t necessary. Play “20 Questions” on Zoom for fun.
Set your background to a familiar spot and ask your friends to guess where you are by asking you yes/no questions.
For instance, “Are you in Europe?” “Do they speak Spanish there?”
This can be played in English or your target language. “20 Questions” helps practise question structure and positive and negative responses.
You and your friend could describe your virtual background in your target language to practise speaking.
